VERY TOUCHING; Pope Francis kisses a disfigured man [ this will make you cry]

His actions have touched many across the world and revitalised the Catholic church

But for Pope Francis, comforting this stricken man after today's weekly audience in St Peter's Square was another simple act of compassion.

In scenes strikingly similar to his encounter with the disfigured Vinicio Riva two weeks before, the pontiff first spoke with the worshipper and then put his arms around him, blessing him.

The man's identity is not known, nor are the details of what caused such terrible damage to his face.

However, his delight at spending a few moments in the presence of the leader of the Catholic church can be imagined.

Francis, formerly Jorge Bergoglio, only took office eight months ago but his his iconoclastic style has already had a huge impact on the faithful

He has made personal calls to distraught worshippers, invited the homeless to dine at St Peter's Square and washed the feet of young offenders.

However, it was a meeting with Mr Riva, who is covered in growths caused by the incurable condition neorofibromatosis, which moved many to tears.

The Pope, once again in St Peter's Square for his general audience, put his hands on the 53-year-old Italian man, kissed, hugged and prayed with him.

Speaking earlier this week, Mr Riva said the pontiff's hug was 'like paradise', adding: 'He didn't even think about whether or not to hug me.

'I'm not contagious, but he didn't know that. But he just did it: he caressed me all over my face, and as he did I felt only love.'

Mr Riva recollected: 'He came down from the altar to see the sick people. He embraced me without saying a word. I felt as though my heart was leaving my body.

'He was completely silent but sometimes you can say more when you say nothing.'

'First, I kissed his hand while with the other hand he caressed my head and wounds. Then he drew me to him in a strong embrace, kissing my face.

'PAINKILLER' PACK WHICH GIVES OUT MEDICINE FOR THE HEART

This weekend the Pope offered 'boxes of mercy' to pilgrims in St Peter's square.

Some 20,000 boxes, designed to look like a packet of painkillers, were illustrated with a human heart and contained a rosary.

 

 

Addressing the crowd in ST Peter's Square the Pontiff said: 'I now want to suggest a medicine. "What" you ask, "the pope is now a pharmacist?"'


The instruction leaflet, available in several languages read: 'Can be used once a day, but in case of emergency can be taken as much as the soul needs.

'My head was against his chest his arms were wrapped around me. It lasted just over a minute, but to me it seemed like an eternity.'

New and lapsed Catholics are surging back to the confession box 'by the hundreds or thousands', according to the Italian Centre for Studies of New Religions.

In Italy half of priests have noted a marked rise in support for the church.

The Italian opinion poll Opinioni reported this week that more than four in five Italians have a 'positive' or 'extremely positive' opinion of the Pope.

Spain, which had been experiencing a decades-long slump, has also seen attendance figures begin to climb since the pontiff's appointment.

Catholic leaders in France, the USA and Latin America have also reported growth in the numbers of churchgoing Catholics.

And Latin America - already the biggest single source of Catholic pilgrims to Italy - saw numbers of pilgrims to the centre of the faith rise by 20 per cent from the same period last year

And that’s equally haunting.  It’s impossible to verify but the picture tells a story about the pain and suffering that exists in Syria right now.  There are many in the media who would like to say this is because president Bashar al-Assad is a ruthless killer.  And that’s half true.  Like other government leaders – he has engaged in war and with that war has come the death of tens of thousands and the displacement of over 1 million Syrians now living in refugee camps.

But this hasn’t always been the case.  This is the inevitable result of a covert war being waged by the U.S., Israel and other Sunni countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia.  Our interests in taking down the Syrian dictator al-Assad are all about geo-politics.  If we take out Syria – we neuter Iranian influence in the region.  It has gotten so bad that al-Qaeda is now fighting on the same side as the United States government and Bashar al-Assad and his government are fighting al-Qaeda.  And Syrians are all the victim of this massive global covert proxy war.

It has gotten to the point where we don’t even know if the chemical weapons that were used in Syria were the result of al-Qaeda or the Syrian government.  When it comes to matters of intelligence and propaganda – it’s very hard to discern truth from fiction.  But no one can deny that Syria was a very stable country until we decided to go in all guns blazing.  We’re not bringing democracy to the world – that’s the sound of imperialism baby.

God is good, 2-Yr-Old Calls Emergency Service And Saves Mother's Life

A toddler has been credited with saving his mother's life after he called emergency service following her sudden collapse last month.

According to reports, 2-year-old Riley Ward of Leicestershire, England, had the presence of mind to call the United Kingdom's emergency telephone number "999" in February when his mom lost consciousness in their home, telling operators: "Mummy's on the floor."
"All I remember is the room getting smaller and smaller and then I opened my eyes when I heard a police officer trying to kick my door down," Riley's mom, Dana Henry, told the Leicester Mercury. I managed to get up and open the door but then collapsed again."
Henry was rushed to the hospital, where doctors reportedly discovered a large blood clot and dangerous bleeding of her ovary.
"When the surgeon came to see me the next day, she said she had never seen anything like it. When I asked what would have happened if I hadn’t got to hospital, she said I would have been very poorly," Henry told the Leicester Mercury.
Henry said that she had long drilled it into Riley and his sister that they should call 999 if they were ever unable to wake her. She says, however, that she's still amazed that her little boy was able to follow those life-saving instructions.
This week, the East Midlands Ambulance Services, which responded to Riley's plea for help, has recognized the toddler's bravery and quick-thinking, the BBC notes. Riley has been awarded a paramedic teddy bear and a certificate

A photograph showing a man teaching his girlfriend how to read the alphabet has gone viral this week, with many touting the image as a shining symbol of love and dedication.

Reddit user sho3 posted the heartwarming image on the social news site on Thursday, with the caption: "I was sitting next to this couple at Starbucks this morning, this man John was teaching Linda the alphabet. He told us that she lost her memory and was re-learning how to read. Patience, love, and understanding at it's finest." The photograph has since been viewed more than 1.4 million times.



Though a lot is as yet unknown about the loving couple (attempts to contact Redditor sho3 have been unsuccessful so far), many users on Reddit and Imgur, where the photo was uploaded, said that the picture has deeply moved them.

"This, people, is true love," Imgur user TheMan87 wrote.

"It's excellent that her husband has the patience to work on this with her," said Reddit user coolhandlucas, who identified himself as a speech-language pathologist, and said that the woman in the photo had perhaps lost the ability to read due to a stroke or dementia.

"I often recommend exercises such as these, but compliance within families varies widely. This is exactly the sort of thing that I'd like to see with a client, and it's heartwarming to see such a successful partnership," he added.

Last month, another photograph of a loving couple went viral on the Interwebs. Pictures of a couple who had been together for 60 years were also viewed more than a million times after they were posted on Reddit. One of the photos was of the happy couple on their wedding day, while the other showed the pair sharing a tender moment decades later after the husband had been hospitalized.

"They were in the deepest kind of love," 23-year-old Colleen Muldoon, the couple's granddaughter, told The Huffington Post in December.

UPDATE: The photographer who captured the stunning shot of John and Linda, Matthew Ballestero, sent The Huffington Post an email this weekend.

"So glad that this story moved you enough to write an article on it!" Ballestero wrote. "Needless to say, it was a beautiful moment for all three of us (my two friends and I) to witness."

A 14-year-old boy has been left with the body of a 110-year-old in India because he has a rare disease which makes him age eight times faster than normal. 

Ali Hussain has seen five of his siblings die from the same condition called Progeria which is known to affect just 80 people worldwide. 

Two of his brothers and three of his sisters have died from the disease in Bihar, the poorest state in India. Progeria causes rapid ageing and sufferers of the genetic disease are prone to arthritis, eye problems, heart disease and baldness.Sufferers are not expected expected to live much beyond the
age of 14 -



but despite the grim prognosis Ali has refused to give up hope.

But three years later the disease had ravaged his body, spreading to his lungs and finally his brain. Doctors told the couple last May that Andy's condition was terminal.

‘He thought it was a cyst, but surgery revealed it was actually cancer,’ Kelli, 29, told MailOnline.

Andy had smoked when he was younger and as well as being a bar manager, 'always lived life to the full'. 

‘He was always one side of the bar or the other,’ said Kelli, who works in insurance and lives in Glasgow.

 

Andy was first diagnosed with cancer throat cancer in May 2009 after discovering a lump in his neck. He had smoked when he was younger and as well as being a bar manager, always lived life to the full

 

‘He always said he would live life to the full and he sure did that.

‘When I met him in December 2004 he was the manager of a local pub and I can honestly say it was love at first sight. He was 21 years older than me but the age difference didn’t matter to us.

‘I had gone for a job in the bar where he worked as an assistant manager. At the end of the interview he said he wanted me to bring him jeans and a T-shirt so he could wear them that night on a date with me.

'That was the kind of person he was, with cheeky eyes and a cheeky grin. We started going out straight away.’

 

Love at first sight: 'Andy was 21 years older than me but the age difference didn't matter to us,' says Kelli

 

Despite the shock of his cancer diagnosis, Andy remained calm. Kelli recalls: ‘He just said we’d get through it – and that he was like Lazarus, with lots of lives.’ 

After intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy, with Kelli constantly by his side in hospital, Andy was given the all clear and the couple tried to get on with their lives.

'Andy was making good progress but in my birthday last April, I could tell something was wrong,’ says Kelli. 

Alarm bells began ringing when party animal Andy wanted to go home early from a night out. 

‘His eyes were streaming, he had a headache, cough and said he felt like someone was pressing on his chest.'

 

Pledge: Upon hearing he had terminal cancer, Andy immediately proposed to Kelli. 'He wanted to give me a wedding day because I'd stuck by him through everything,' she says

 

Kelli insisted he got checked out by a doctor and the news that followed was devastating.

On May 15, Andy was diagnosed with stage four (advanced) lung cancer – and doctors feared the disease had spread to his brain.  

And there was worse to come two weeks later. ‘Our worst fears were confirmed,’ says Kelli. ‘The cancer had spread to the brain and there was nothing they could do.'

Andy immediately proposed. ‘In the eight years we were together he had never wanted to get married – he said it was just a bit of paper,' says Kelli.

‘But he immediately decided he wanted to give me a wedding day because I’d stuck by him through everything, so we set about organising everything. Looking back, I wonder if it was almost to distract me from the horror of the situation.’

‘I felt sad, excited and scared – it was a real mixed bag of emotions.’

Joy: The wedding, in East Kilbride, was a true reflection of Andy's vivacious personality, says Kelli. 'What was supposed to be to be about 12 people there but there ended up being about 200 - because everyone came to say goodbye'

 

The date was set for July 6th and Kelli set about organising a small, family wedding.

Unbeknown to her, Andy had told doctors how determined he was – and managed to battle through to the big day.

‘What was supposed to be to be about 12 people ended up being about 80 - plus another 200 for the evening! Everyone really came to say goodbye to Andy.

‘We all thought there would be loads of crying and sadness, but it was actually a celebration of his life and the fact he’d made it to the wedding.

 

The couple managed to spend one precious on honeymoon at a spa before returning home, where Andy continued to decline

 

‘Andy was his usual hilarious self during the speeches and everyone was howling with laughter.’

‘It got to the point where he could only eat McFlurries because it was so hard to get food down and he needed a cane to walk,’ says Kelli.

‘But he also became more accepting of his situation. One day, we were sitting on the sofa and he turned to me and said: “I’ve had a good innings, when your time’s up, your time’s up – and mine will be very soon".'

Andy died on August 6 2012 – a month after the couple’s wedding day.  

‘That morning he was crying in my arms and he took off his watch and gave it to me for his best friend to wear – he knew it was close.’

Later that day a doctor came and gave Andy painkilling medication. He died that afternoon at home. 

‘I remember feeling very sad afterwards that he’d never got a chance to watch the wedding DVD,’ says Kelli. ‘But I’m just so relieved he made it to the big day.’ 

Now, in an effort to raise money for Macmillan Cancer, Kelli has given up alcohol as part of the Go Sober campaign.

‘I want to give something back to the nurses that made it that little bit easier for us at the end,’ she says. ‘I haven’t had a month sober since I was about 16 and I know that Andy would think it’s hilarious that I’ve signed up to do this.’

A mother of two who was born with a rare disorder which causes abnormalities in the spine, has found an unconventional way of getting around, she travels by skateboard.

Rosemary Siggins, who is just 2ft 6in, suffers from sacral agenesis, and had the lower half of her body removed when she was aged two.

She learned to walk on her hands at first, but eventually began using a skateboard to help her get around.

‘My skateboard’s so important to me – it is the difference between feeling trapped and feeling free,’ she said during an interview with Closer magazine. ‘I couldn’t get by without it. And the kids think it’s cool!



Rosemary (known as Rose) is mother to Luke, 13, and Shelby, six, and drives them to school every day in her specially adapted car.

‘When Luke was young, we’d skateboard together,’ she said. ‘At first, he wasn’t able to stand on the board, so he’d sit and push with his hands like me.’



The 39-year-old from Pueblo, Colorado, was fitted with prosthetic legs at the age of six, but found them too painful, preferring to use her skateboard.

‘I annoyed the hell out of my teachers, as they’d find my legs left around the school where I’d slipped out of them and got on my skateboard,’ she added.

While she was confident in her younger years, Rose became incredibly insecure about her condition when she was a teenager, and worried that she’s never have a boyfriend or a family of her own.

She trained as a mechanic and qualified when she was 22, but was resigned to the fact that she’d be alone for the rest of her life.

But Rose’s life changed in 1997 when she met Dave Siggins, who worked at the car parts shop she regularly used.

‘There was an immediate attraction for both of us,’ said Rose. ‘He treated me just like any other woman and told me I was beautiful. Eight months later, we began dating.’

Rose fell pregnant a year after she began dating Dave (who is 5ft 11in).

The couple (who say they have a normal sex life) had assumed they would not be able to have children as sacral agenesis often causes damage to the reproductive systems.

‘When I went to see my specialist, they told me no one with sacral agenesis had ever gone full term and said a baby could crush my internal organs,' she explains.

‘One doctor even advised an abortion, but I refused. I knew the chances of passing on my condition were almost nil.

‘Luckily, it was an easy pregnancy and Luke was born healthy by C-section in January 1999.’

She went on to have daughter Shelby when Luke was six, but her second pregnancy was more difficult.
