2nd Timothy 2:19"Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure,having this seal,The Lord knoweth them that are His ,and Let everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.'
Today it is very easy to name the name of Christ and say yes I am a Christian but show no evidence of really being born again and seeing no change in a person's life at all.Yes there are true conversions and there are false conversions.There are genuine followers of Jesus who walk in the light and there are counterfeit Christians who still love the darkness of sin and have not departed and renounced wickedness ! They still enjoy and embrace ungodliness and worldly lusts but the bible teaches us that saving grace according to Titus 2:12 teaches us to 'say no' to ungodliness and worldly lusts and to live godly and righteous lives in this present world.
To depart from iniquity means to turn away from sin.That is our responsibility according to this scripture. Both inward and outward change are necessary fruits of a true believer in Jesus Christ.
Later in 2nd Timothy 3:5 it says that many 'having a form of godliness ,but denying the power thereof:from such turn away.'It says to turn away from them not make them members of your church.Woe to the preachers who tell people they are saved when they are not !Many make 'false decisions' for Christ who were never under conviction of sin and therefore never converted ! Read Acts 3:19 'Repent ye therefore,and be ye converted,that your sins may be blotted out,when times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.'
The essence of ungodliness comes from an unclean heart and then it is expressed in conduct.True godliness also comes from the heart and cannot be hidden.People will see it in the way you live your life.The commitment to follow Christ does not exist in those who have just the outward form of Christianity.God's power in the new birth regenerates our spirit which transforms our lives and we will 'depart from sin.'Actions speak louder than words ! By their ungodly living we see that many are 'living a lie' and will not deny ungodliness.
LOOK AT THESE SCRIPTURES !
1.Acts 3:26 "Unto you first God,having raised up his Son Jesus,sent him to bless you, in turning away everyone from his iniquities.' Sounds just like 2nd Tim.2:19 ! Why don't we preach this ? Why do we not put these scriptures in most gospel tracts ?
2.Isaiah 52:11'Depart ye,depart ye, go ye from thence,touch no unclean thing, go out of the midst of her.Be ye clean ,that bear the vessels of the Lord.'
3.Proverbs 3:7'Be not wise in thine own eyes,fear the Lord ,and depart from evil.'
4.Titus 2:14" Who gave Himself for us ,that He might redeem us from all iniquity,and purify unto Himself a peculiar people ,zealous of good works.'
Friends study these scriptures for yourself.
Why are so many lacking a zeal for good works ? Why do people avoid these two word 'good works' as though that all you need to do is to verbally name the name of Christ with no evidence necessary at all ? A zeal for good works is the fruit of being redeemed from iniquity !Good works will not save us but if we lack good works how can we say we are saved ?
I say if you love iniquity you are not redeemed.You have not turned away from the old life and you do not fear the Lord.That's why there is no evidence of godliness or good works in your life.
Titus 1:16'They profess that they know God but in works they deny Him ,being abominable and disobedient ,and unto every good work reprobate.' Now that is a very serious scripture written about those who verbally confess Christ and attend church ! Makes you think ,doesn't it ?
